Healthy people stay healthy – by Amanda Mooney

Sick people get sick. Healthy people stay healthy. Is getting sick such a bad thing? Or is sickness the healthiest thing a body can do when it is pushed to the limits?
One way to look at it is that sicknesses is the body’s way of eliminating toxins.
Have you ever noticed that when you are sick, your partner doesn’t necessarily get sick or vice versa?
Have you ever gone on holiday to a tropical location only to come down with a cold? Why? It’s not “flu season” during summer?
The answer lies in our own body’s health. And by Health I don’t just mean how many vegies you eat or how much exercise you do.
To be healthy involves all aspects of the human being. From the food and water we put in our mouths to our relationships we have with others. It all counts!
Stress, is probably the greatest cause of dis-ease within our society. Chemical, emotional and physical stress all impact on our body’s health equally.
The food we buy in our supermarkets is almost a laboratory of different pesticides, fungicides, herbicides and dyes… the chemicals in our water such as fluoride, the air borne pollution we breath in everyday … it’s a wonder that we can even function!
Once our day starts we’re then bombarded with a thousand and one demands and deadlines that all had to be done yesterday. Then you get home to meet a spouse who has had an equally stressful day and it’s little wonder that arguments break out, compounding the stress for the day.
And just to top it off, everyday you sit for hours on end, in the car and then at your desk working on your computer all day. This form of repetitive behaviour manifests into micro-trauma that can lead to serious problems.
But while all this is going on your body gets on with the job. It eliminates those chemicals you ingest, it calms you each night to allow you to sleep, it tries to repair those damaged areas allowing you to still function.
But surely something’s gotta give?
Well it does! When you’ve finally pushed your body to its limits, you get sick!
This might mean a runny nose and mucous production, a cough, rash, diarrhoea, constipation, headaches. Almost anything!
It’s a simple equation really- you put rubbish in and the body has to get rubbish out!
So what’s the answer? Live a bubble?
The best you can do is your best.
Avoid cigarettes, alcohol, and the chemicals in food and water. Reduce unnecessary medications. Set aside time to be still and relax … practice meditation to quieten the mind. Be grateful for everything you have and love each other. Get chiropractic adjustment regularly to ensure your spine and nervous system are functioning optimally. Exercise to stimulate and strengthen your body. Take a walk on your lunch break. Surround yourself with interesting people that enrich your live.
So next time your sick, don’t run for the antibiotics to “solder on”. Allow your body to eliminate what it needs to and take the time to recognise the “rubbish” in your life.
Be well and live well.

Restore Joint Mobility by Amanda Mooney

The most common therapeutic procedure performed by doctors of chiropractic is known as “spinal manipulation,” also called “chiropractic adjustment.” The purpose of manipulation is to restore joint mobility by manually applying a controlled force into joints that have become hypomobile — or restricted in their movement — as a result of a tissue injury. Tissue injury can be caused by a single traumatic event, such as improper lifting of a heavy object, or through repetitive stresses, such as sitting in an awkward position with poor spinal posture for an extended period of time. In either case, injured tissues undergo physical and chemical changes that can cause inflammation, pain, and diminished function for the sufferer. Manipulation, or adjustment of the affected joint and tissues, restores mobility, thereby alleviating pain and muscle tightness, and allowing tissues to heal.
